Hackers stole over $600 million in cryptocurrency by exploiting a security vulnerability in Poly Network. Poly Network is a platform that links together different blockchains for them to work together. In a peculiar twist in events, the crypto thieves returned almost half of the digital currency they stole.
Poly Network went public about the cyber attack on Tuesday, attempting to reach out and communicate with the hackers encouraging them to return the funds. On Wednesday, the hackers began transferring the assets back.
Cryptocurrency security analysts suggest that the cybercriminals were identified or were on the verge of identification, therefore returned the stolen coin to avoid prosecution.
