Well, it’s Friday night, so I decided to visit the city center of Athens, Greece. I found myself in front of the Hard Rock Cafe in Athens, Greece, and decided to check out what instruments they might have on display. As a fan of 90s and metal music, I was delighted at what I found and was happy I stopped by the Hard Rock Cafe Athens.
I was excited to find a black ESP electric guitar owned and signed by a founding member of the speed metal band Slayer, Kerry King. Slayer has been at it for four decades now, touring, releasing albums, and bringing it worldwide.
I think the church and the religion right now have a lot more to be worried about than SLAYER – Kerry King
Next up, I came across a white vintage Kramer Flying V style electric guitar signed by members of White Zombie. White Zombie is best known for the songs More Human Than Human, Black Sunshine, Thunderkiss ’65, and Dragula.
White Zombie’s most successful album was La Sexorcisto, Astro-Creep: 2000. It reached number six on the Billboard 200 albums chart and sold over two and a half million copies in the US alone.
White Zombie was around since 1985 but did not experience any mainstream commercial success until about 1992 with the release of La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One. White Zombie broke up in 1998.
As I continued to explore the guitars, I found a smashed and broken Washburn that Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell once had lit on fire on stage during a performance. Unfortunately, Dimebag Darrel passed away in 2004, but his influence still prevails in the metal music genre.
Pantera’s album Far Beyond Driven debuted number one on the Billboard 200 album chart in the USA in 1994 and was number one in Australia. Other notable successful albums from the band include Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar Display of Power.
Bassist James LoMenzo played this Warwick bass on tour in 2006 with Megadeth. LoMenzo joining the Megadeth lineup followed bassist James MacDonough leaving the band concerning personal differences. The first Megadeth debut with the new roster played at the Dubai Desert Rock Festival in the United Arab Emirates. James’ first album recorded with Megadeth was the 2007 release United Abominations.
Before joining Megadeth, James LoMenzo played with Black Label Society, David Lee Roth, and White Lion. He played with Megadeth from 2006 to 2010. As of 2021, LoMenzo is an active touring member of the Megadeth collective.
The 1954 Gibson J-45 was used by guitarist John 5 in the studio during the recording of Marilyn Manson’s Holy Wood album. Holy Wood is Marilyn Manson’s fourth studio album. John 5 has also worked with Avril Lavigne, Rob Halford, k.d. lang, Garbage, Meat Loaf, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, FeFe Dobson, and Steve Perry.
So, the instruments I found at the Hard Rock Cafe in Athens, Greece, were from some of my favorite metal artists: Slayer, White Zombie, Pantera, and Marilyn Manson. I hope you enjoy metal music, and I hope you enjoyed checking out these guitars with me here at Noiszi!
